Over 50% of all Americans are now online. The temptation is overwhelming to treat the medium
like any other - using it to talk to people. However, the attraction of the Internet for both
marketers and users is interactivity - the ability to talk with people.
E-marketing has created a unique situation - people are volunteering to be educated if you provide them education that
is worth their while. And this is not limited to corporate America. While many in the political arena have not
embraced the possibilities of e-marketing, those who have reap large rewards:
- In 1996, Sen. Bob Dole and Sen. John Kerry said that one-third of their volunteers came through the Internet.
- In 1998, Jesse Ventura's innovative use of the Internet garnered him an additional two to four percent of the vote, which was also his margin of victory.
- In 2002, John McCain raised $1.4 million in three days on his Internet site through a strong Web site and solid email marketing.
The Internet has won elections, recruited volunteers, and killed legislation and that's just the
beginning. Click here to get started.
